3D-DOCTOR performs 3D rendering quickly and easily by combining 3D raster image and vector boundary technologies into the rendering algorithms. 3D surface models are created from object boundaries using highly intelligent modeling algorithms.
Object boundaries can be generated easily from the automatic segmentation or interactive segmentation command. The 3D rendering process normally takes a few seconds when using the Simple Surface rendering option or a few minutes when using the Complex Surface rendering.
Once a 3D object is rendered, it can be displayed in many ways. Multiple objects can be grouped together to create a sophisticated 3D view. Each object's material property and color can be interactively adjusted for the best display effect. Other 3D rendering parameters, such as viewing angle, light source, color of light source, transparency, etc. are easily defined. The 3D animation function allows for continuous display of objects.

3D-DOCTOR provides several ways of surface rendering using different algorithms:
3D Rendering/Simple Surface: Simple surface rendering uses an optimized proprietary algorithm to create 3D models from planar object boundaries. The 3D models created are simpler and smoother, very well suited for surgical simulation, surgical planning, and rapid prototyping applications. The Simple Surface rendering function can be used for most images.
3D Rendering/Complex Surface: This method is suitable for a complex 3D object with complex branches and topologies. The image below is rendered from two objects, the head outline and brain. The head surface is set as transparent so the structure of the brain can be seen clearly.
3D Knee Image: This image is rendered from a MRI knee image with the bones displayed as red.
